The beach, Saint-Joseph Church and Perret
The Le Havre beach, a huge pebble ribbon facing the sea, lines up colourful huts and restaurants looking out to the open water: perfect for a drink at sunset. In the centre, Saint-Joseph Church and its one-hundred-and-seven-metre lantern tower rise above the concrete rooftops. The Perret show-flat, furnished as in 1950, explains together the soul of the post-war reconstruction.
Le Volcan, Commerce Dock and contemporary art
Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the white silhouette of Le Volcan sits at the edge of the Commerce Dock, which splits the city into two great reflections. People come for a show, a coffee or a walk on the footbridge. In summer, artworks scattered around town, including the Container Catenary at the port, turn a romantic stroll into a real artistic treasure hunt.
Hanging gardens and Sainte-Adresse
Perched in a former fort, the hanging gardens offer an exceptional view over the city, the port and the estuary: ideal for a picnic for two. Just next door, Sainte-Adresse stacks its villas and the Notre-Dame-des-Flots chapel along the cliff. On Lyad, members from Le Havre share their favourite beaches and Sunday addresses; it is up to you to find someone to enjoy them with.
